Warung Makan Wo Erli: A Taste of Krui You Won’t Forget

Warung Makan Wo Erli: A Taste of Krui You Won’t Forget

Rumah Makan Wo Erli

If there’s one place you must visit when you're in Krui, Pesisir Barat, Lampung, it’s Warung Makan Wo Erli. Tucked right by the Terminal Market on Jl. Way Batu, this unassuming little food spot might not look fancy, but the steady stream of customers speaks volumes—this place is the real deal.

From the moment you step inside, you’ll realize this is no ordinary eatery. It runs on a semi-self-service system: you scoop your own rice, pick your own dishes, and pour your own veggies. The only things that are served directly at the table are fresh raw vegetables (lalapan) and a killer sambal. And trust me, the sambal here is no joke—fresh, spicy, and the perfect sidekick to every bite.

I stopped by just before Eid, so unfortunately, there were no lobsters or other seafood delicacies that day. But honestly? I didn’t feel like I missed out at all. This warung offers rich, traditional dishes bursting with flavor and depth, especially the kind that showcases the bold, earthy spices of Sumatra. No wonder people keep coming back.

One standout dish I tried was Gulai Taboh, a signature dish from Lampung. It’s a creamy coconut milk-based curry filled with a delightful mix of ingredients: fish, shrimp, various beans, and tangkil (Gnetum fruit). Sometimes pumpkin or sweet potato is added, depending on what’s fresh. The result? A warm, hearty bowl that comforts you like a homemade meal. It’s not just food—it’s a cultural experience, often served during traditional ceremonies in Lampung.

Next up was Pekhos Masin, a unique twist on gulai made without coconut milk. This dish uses fish like tilapia, carp, or the legendary ikan tuhuk (blue marlin). And let me tell you, ikan tuhuk is something else. Also known as sate tuhuk, this local favorite tastes a bit like salmon, but with a firmer, meatier texture. After being grilled, it’s generously doused in a rich peanut sauce, topped with pickles and sambal. It’s smoky, nutty, tangy, and totally unforgettable.

What truly impressed me was how bold the flavors were. Every dish had a strong character—no blandness, no holding back. The curries were thick, the aromas intense, and the spices layered beautifully. For someone who loves exploring flavor, this place is a hidden gem. You don’t need fine dining to experience culinary greatness—just grab a wooden bench at Warung Wo Erli and dig in.

Oh, and one important tip: if you see bottles and containers lying around, don’t drink from them! They’re actually meant for washing your hands. I almost made the mistake myself the first time—luckily, I caught on quickly. A small but handy thing to know if it’s your first visit.

During my stay in Krui, I ended up eating here several times. That alone should tell you how good it is. This isn’t just about filling your stomach—it’s about savoring tradition, reconnecting with flavors of the past, and appreciating the simplicity of good food made with love.

So if you ever find yourself in Krui—whether it’s for surfing, exploring, or just passing through—make sure you stop by Warung Makan Wo Erli. It’s more than just a meal. It’s a taste of Lampung’s heritage served on a humble plate.

Kuching Waterfront: A Journey Through Time and Tranquility

Ah, the Kuching Waterfront! If you’ve never been, you’re in for a treat. The first time I visited, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I'd heard about it from a few travel forums, and it seemed like a "must-visit," but you know how those can be hit or miss. Spoiler alert: Kuching Waterfront was a massive hit for me, and I’m not the kind of person who’s easily impressed by just a riverside promenade. Let me tell you about my first day there—it started off a little rough. I woke up later than planned (typical me), rushed through breakfast, and by the time I made it to the Waterfront, it was mid-morning. Honestly, I was kind of grumpy because the sun was already blazing, and I forgot to pack a hat. That humidity? Yikes. But you know what? The moment I stepped onto the walkway and saw the Sarawak River, all my worries kind of melted away. There’s something about that wide, calm river that just puts you in a good mood. It’s like the whole city takes a deep breath there. The beauty ...
